Overview
A $750 award is available to a high school senior who intends to pursue an agriculturally related degree at any accredited college or university.

Name of Scholarship
This award is the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Jack and Vander Reich Memorial Endowment Scholarship.

Purpose and Background
The scholarship honors Jack and Vander Reich of Zap and supports students preparing for careers in agriculture. Jack Reich was a prominent Angus breeder and an influential leader in the beef industry, having served as president of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association and as a director for both the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the North Dakota Angus Association. Vander Reich, age ten, was a fifth grader who loved hunting, fishing, cowboy life and time with his family. They were both killed in an automobile accident in November 2012.

Award Amount
One scholarship of $750 will be awarded.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following at the time of application:
- Be a high school senior.
- Demonstrate an interest in North Dakota’s beef cattle industry.
- Be either a member of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association or the child of a member.
- Plan to major in an agriculturally related field at an accredited college or university.
- Submit a completed paper application to the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation office (electronic/emailed applications are not accepted).

Preference
While not required, preference may be given to applicants who are involved in rodeo and/or shooting sports.

Application Deadline and Payment
Completed applications must be received by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation office by March 1. Scholarship payment will be made after the recipient has enrolled in the fall semester. The Foundation will issue the award check to the recipient’s college or university development foundation once the office of Student Financial Aid authorizes payment.

Selection and Administration
- The Scholarship Selection Committee will include the NDSF advisory committee chairman, at least three other livestock industry professionals, and a member of the Reich family or a designated representative.
- The North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Board of Directors may make changes to these rules if necessary.
- The recipient will be announced in the North Dakota Stockman and other outlets; the winner may also be recognized at the annual convention when possible. The Foundation reserves the right to publish all or portions of submitted essays.

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a completed application that includes:
1. Personal background information.
2. An explanation of why the applicant chose their intended major.
3. Future career and life plans.
4. School and community activities.
5. Work experience.
6. A short essay.
7. Two letters of reference and an official transcript (both must accompany the application).
